The Pembroke Panthers opened their season with a hard fought win at home to West Swansea Hawks, in a really tough, physical encounter.

The home side defended resolutely throughout and some slick handling and great support work saw them claim the necessary points to secure a well deserved victory in front of a good crowd.

The First XV entertained Trimsaran in round one of the WRU National Division 3 Cup last Saturday.

The match was sponsored by Treganna Guest House and Ian Martin and Family.

Both teams were very keen to advance and the match demonstrated their desire throughout.

Pembroke started very brightly with their lively backrow carving early opportunities, which saw flanker Walters, No 10 Alderwick kick two penalties and conversions and prop Palmer crash over for a well earned score; in reply the visitors scored a converted try, leaving the home side deservedly ahead 20-7 at the break.

The second half became a real scrap for possession and the visitors posted a number of determined attacks, which were repelled by equally resolute defence, but did yield one converted try.

The home side despite a number of failed attacks managed to cement their victory with a late try from No 10 Alderwick, who topped off another impressive personal performance and allowed the home side to claim a deserved victory and a place in the draw for the next round to the delight of the large home support.

The Youth match against Fishguard and Goodwick was cancelled as they could not travel.
