Last week Pembroke RFC received the very sad news of the sudden, unexpected passing of club stalwart Basil James, at the age of 76 years.
Basil, or ‘Baz’ as he was affectionately known, played at youth and senior level for many years, after which he served and represented the club for over 50 years in a wide range of capacities.
He will always be remembered fondly by many at the club and across the County for his input and dedication.
Throughout his time he was adamant that the club should always adhere to the values and principles that had underpinned its success during his time.
He was so proud of his club and all of the developments, which helped to provide continued opportunities for youngsters and most recently women to join, play and enjoy the game.
Baz remembered lots of the club’s past exploits and characters, and always had a story to tell; during the recent 125 celebrations he provided a very interesting article on the ‘History of the Scarlets’, where he reflected on team mates and some key events with great humour.
Our thoughts go out to his wife Mary, family and close friends. His funeral will take place on January 27.
