ST. CLEARS 3 pts. PEMBROKE 46

Last Saturday, a very young Pembroke squad travelled to take on St. Clears in a rearranged league fixture.

The match was played in good conditions in front of a very good crowd.

Pembroke started strongly, with Toby Smith crossing for the first try as the result of good combined play after nine minutes.

Then after concerted pressure, outside-half Luca Trimarco scored a second try after 15 minutes, quickly followed by another backs try from fullback Rhys Johns.

With Pembroke’s pack dominant and supplying lots of possession, Toby Smith rounded off some excellent play to score a fourth try after 29 minutes.

At half-time Pembroke led 22-3 after St. Clears had added a penalty.

Pembroke started the second half strongly, with the pack continuing to provide lots of possession in all areas of the field, which in turn provided a rampant backline with lots of opportunities to score.

Four Youth players, three of whom had only made their senior debuts the week before, scored really well-worked tries; Tom Kinnear on the wing produced a marvellous step before outsprinting the defence to the line, Lewys Gibby from scrum-half added yet another virtuoso performance, and finally Jack Parkinson scored a brace from centre after some excellent combined play.

The Pembroke coaches were exceptionally pleased with the showing of their young squad, which they were keen to point out was the culmination of sound preparation over their junior and youth years.

Other notable performances highlighted by the coaches included those by Sam Smith, Dom Coleman and Billy Wood, playing for the first time at open-side flanker, although supporters agreed that this fine win was the culmination of a huge team effort.

Another Youth player making his debut was Jordan Evans, who came on and performed very creditably in the back row for the last 20 minutes.

The final score of 46-3 was a true reflection of Pembroke’s total dominance of this game.

Pembroke’s final league game will be at Milford, date as yet to be set.
