Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by L. G. Leisure and Get Stuffed Pizza) played away on Monday evening to the Power Station Club in Pembroke, in the semi-final of the Knockout Cup.

This competition is contested over five singles matches, with aggregate scores to count, but unfortunately on this occasion the Saundersfoot side were 315-216 losers.

The first frame, always a crucial one, saw Mark Cleevely play L. Goldsmith. Mark started solidly, opening up a good early lead and midway was still 21 points to the good. His opponent then started to come back at him, however, and as the frame came to the pink and black, Mark was 10 points down. The two remaining colours were shared, with Mark taking the black, but he still suffered defeat by nine points.

The second frame saw captain Glyn Davies play P. Grimwood. Glyn was determined to play better and had practised all week. He had a bad start, but picked up to lead by six points going to the colours. Unfortunately, it was not quite enough as he eventually succumbed by just one point (unlucky).

The third frame saw Steve Barlow play I. Forrester. Steve started ok, but a couple of errors let his opponent in to take control. Steve continued to battle hard to bring the score down, but his efforts were in vain as he was finally on the wrong side of a 55-point defeat.

With Saundersfoot now 65 points behind, the fourth frame saw Darren Morgan play M. John. Darren started slowly, but soon got going. Unfortunately, he then began missing balls he would normally get to leave himself frustrated. By mid-frame, he was only one point up, and by the colours he was even more frustrated as he was now 22 points down. This meant the game was effectively lost (unless Dave Wooles could produce a miracle in the next frame) as Darren eventually went down by 42.

The fourth frame saw Dave Wooles play P. White. Dave, Saundersfoot's in form player, was up against it from the start, being 107 points behind and against a good solid player. Dave was playing OK, but by mid-frame found himself 18 points behind. He was now playing for pride and picked himself up to turn the frame around and eventually win by eight.

NB. Saundersfoot still have a final to play on April 30 when they again meet the Power Station in the Jimmy Allen competition at the Waterloo Club, Hakin.
