Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure Ltd) played host to the Black Rabbit Club on Monday evening in the second leg of the Knockout Cup.
Played over five frames with aggregate scores to count, Saundersfoot were faced with a hefty 112 deficit to claw back from the first leg, and, although putting up a great display to win 309-219 on the night, in the end it proved just too much, as they eventually went down by 22 points overall.
The first frame saw captain Glyn Davies play their captain K. Williams. Glyn started the better, opening up a 20-point lead, only to be pegged back mid-frame. Glyn then kicked on, before potting all the colours to win by 42. Saundersfoot 70 points behind.
The second frame saw Mark Cleevely play D. Lewis. Mark struggled to find a rhythm and mid-frame was 10 points adrift. By the colours, he had fought back to be five points, up, but his opponent then potted most of the remaining balls to eventually win by 12. Saundersfoot 82 adrift.
The third frame saw Dean Ludlow play K. Williams Jr. Dean started well opening up a 10-point lead early on. Both players exchanged pots throughout and by the colours Dean was four points to the good, and that was still the margin when the frame ended. Saundersfoot 78 points down.
Frame four saw Dave Wooles play D. Worrell. This was a close affair, with both players potting well, but Saundersfoot’s luck ran out again, with Dave losing by 13. Saundersfoot 91 down.
This meant that Darren Morgan had it all to do in the final frame against M. Broxton and what a tremendous fight he made of it.
Potting well, he opened up a commanding lead early on and by mid-frame was 38 points up, with the lead being being extended to 66 by the colours. Darren then potted yellow and green to go 71pts up, only for his opponent to pot the brown, meaning Darren needed at least two snookers if he was to overhaul the 91-point deficit.
He got one them, but didn’t get the other, so unlucky and well played Darren.
