Saundersfoot Sports CLUB

progress in Knockout cup

Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure) played host to the Manchester Club from Milford on Monday evening in the Knockout Cup (aggregate scores over five singles) and were 270-243 winners.

The first frame saw Darren Morgan play Viv Price. Darren started slowly, letting Viv in for a 26 break. After that, though, he got into his stride and began closing the gap. By the colours, he had taken a 10 point lead and eventually closed out the frame brilliantly to win by 30.

The second frame saw Mark Cleevely play Adrian Mathias. Mark also started slowly, against a good player, and was was 32 points down on the blue. The remaining three colours act as double points, but it wasn't to be as Mark potted blue and pink, but not the black, to leave the Manc man a 28-point winner.

This left Saundersfoot just two points up overall.

The third frame saw Dave Wooles play Justin Davies. Dave started OK, opening up a small early lead, but back came his opponent to edge ahead. By mid-frame Dave was a point behind, but it was still anyone's game, and as the frame got to the colours, it was Dave who held his nerve to win by four and put Saundersfoot six points up.

The fourth frame saw Dean Ludlow play Jamie Greenish. Dean started slowly and was soon 20 points down, but rallied mid-frame to cut the gap to 12. By the colours, Dean was again 18 points down, but he then potted the best balls of his life, which included a clearance of 22.

With Saundersfoot now 26 points to the good, the final frame saw Martin Durham play Alan Dundas. Martin started like a train, potting the first few balls to extend the Saundersfoot lead. But his opponent then powered to a 24-point lead, closing the overall gap to just two points. This frame was to-ing and fro-ing, but by the pink, Martin had clinched it, to give Saundersfoot a 27-point win overall.
