They are a hardy bunch in the lower divisions of Pembrokeshire cricket; a bit of rain does them no harm at all and in some cases a lot of it just washes off like water off a duck's back. Given the downpour the county experienced on Saturday which decimated the programme, it wasn't a surprise to see some games start, but to have one finish to completion is almost unprecedented, but that is what happened between Haverfordwest 4ths and St. Ishmaels' 2nds at the Racecourse. While all around them ran off to take cover, the brave bunch of this game accepted the soaking they were going to receive to see battle it out like true warriors with Haverfordwest coming out on top after a seven run victory. Batting first, The Town reached 105-9 with Andrew Phillips scoring 22 and Budika 33, while Ian Hawkins took 3-7 for the visitors and Bryan Hawkins and Rhys Davies two wickets apiece. In reply, Tish gritted their teeth for an agonising loss as Rob Cockburn hit 28 yet 2-21 from Chloe Hood and Jay Blockwell's 2-7 gave the home team the narrowest of wins. In Division One, St. Ishmaels and Cresselly battled at the start yet when the home side were reduced to 3-3 the umpires brought them off. Lyn Richards was Cresselly's destroyer taking 3-1 and he no doubt was the only one not happy with the decision! Elsewhere, Burton scored 144-7 at Llangwm, with Toby Hayman scoring 49 and Phil Sutton 42 before rain put an end to that game. Other fixtures succumbed to the weather.

Duggie Morris Cup

Carew coasted to a 47 runs win away to Pembroke, who were held to a total of 106-3 chasing the total of 153-3 posted by the visitors. Tom Davies and middle order batsman Ian Sefton both scored 46 in the Carew total, with Davies being undefeated and his cousin Rhys Davies also got in on the act with a brisk 24. In the Pembroke reply, Phil Hay with 40 and Barry Evans with 34 provided the backbone to the response, backed up by Lewis Wilkes with 20, but the Pembroke batsmen were unable to get on top of the accurate Carew bowling which restricted the run rate. Tom Davies followed up his batting to pick up two of the wickets to fall. Whitland are also through to the second round with a comfortable 37 runs win at home to Llangwm. The in-form pair of Jonathan Thomas and Paul Davies were the main contributors in a Whitland total of 172-4. Thomas found the boundary four times and cleared it twice in his attacking knock of 48 and Davies was not far behind with his 45, which included six fours. Edward John provided the main support, with 23 as Chris Inward led the Llangwm bowling attack in a 2-21 spell. Although elegant left-hander Will Beresford scored 55 with eight fours and one six, backed up by James Venables with 32, the visitors could only reach 135-7 in reply. Daniel James took 3-23, Mark Lee 2-19 and Scott Newton 2-30.

Village Cup

Cresselly and Carew are both through to the second round of the Village Cup. Carew defeated the visitors Llandysul by 99 runs after building up a total of 205-7. An undefeated century by stylish left-hander Simon Cole, was the match winning knock for Cresselly after the hosts Lawrenny were 200 all out.
