Last Sunday, the George Argent Cup was contested at Tenby Golf Club. This is a foursomes stableford competition with each pair comprising of a adult and a junior. Prior to the golf commencing, the draw was made.
Despite a stiff breeze and occasional showers, the swing was generally excellent. Paul James and Lucy Anthony scored 27 points and lady captain Marrion Clarke and junior captain Sophie Lovett bagged 30 points.
Mike Anthony and Max James's 33 points included back to back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. Tony Key and Seren Allen's 35 points included a five pointer on the 10th where Seren narrowly missed a putt for a three which would have given them six points.
Neil Lovett and Nel Allen brought in a fine 39 points, but it did not get them a top three finish. They lost out on the back nine to Chris Hughes and Luke Harries, the current Dyfed champion, who had eagles on the seventh and 14th holes.
Georgina Ormond and Archie Hughes's wonderful 40 points included three blobs on the ninth, 15th and 16th holes which ultimately lost them the cup.
Junior organiser Nicky Allen and Rhys Grigg claimed a fantastic 42 points. Their magnificent back runs of 24 points ensured that they are the deserved 2014 winners of the Argent Cup.
