PONTYBEREM 19 pts.

TENBY UNITED 35

Continuing the good form shown in their pre-season friendlies, when they clocked up over 100 points in two matches, Tenby United also got their league campaign off to a flyer on Saturday.

Travelling to play Pontyberem in their opening encounter in division three west, the bouyant Seasiders turned in another impressive all-round performance to run out victors by 35 points to 19.

Despite the journey, they settled down quickly and had the better of the first half as they opened up a healthy 18-9 lead by the interval.

Centre Jack Guerreiro got the scoreboard ticking over with the first try and that was followed by another touchdown from hooker Graham Jones, a new recruit from Pembroke.

And it was another newcomer, scrum-half Jonathan Rogers from Pembroke Dock, who added the conversion to one of them and also slotted a penalty for good measure.

Pontyberem's only reply came in the form of three penalties from the boot of outside-half Daniel Griffiths.

After the break, Griffiths was on target again with his fourth penalty of the day and also added a conversion from in front of the sticks following a penalty try..

But there as no stopping Tenby as further tries came from centre Toby Smith and winger Dai Merrick, with Rogers converting both and adding a further penalty to complete the scoring.

It meant that the United also earned themselves a bonus point in what was an encouraging start to the new season.
