New boccia courts have been marked out to help a young Pembrokeshire teenager prepare for the Paralympics.

Jacob Thomas from Bethesda was picked for the GB boccia team earlier this year.

The 17-year-old is one of nine players who will represent Britain at the 2012 London Paralympics this summer.

Now three new courts have been marked out at Bloomfield leisure centre in Narberth to help his Paralympic training.

The courts have been sponsored by the British Paralympic Association, Valero and Princes Gate, of Narberth.

Angela Miles, disability sports development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire - Pembrokeshire County Council's sports development arm - said the new facility would enable Jacob to have additional training close to home.

"And with the sport increasing in popularity, they will add to the boccia facilities available to all our county players."

The Crymych Panthers - Pembrokeshire's boccia club - which meets at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre every Wednesday - will be holding its club championships at the Bloomfield centre over the summer.
