Narberth THIRDS 3
On a clear, cold Saturday afternoon, Narberth Thirds, very much the quiet, unsung heroes in the local Football League, travelled up to Fishguard.
The game got off to an electric start as Narberth caught the hosts napping and Callum O'Connor put his side ahead with a great strike from a well-earned free-kick.
The Fishguard goalkeeper did well to keep out the onslaught from the Narberth forwards; it could have been 4-0 by half-time, but instead the home team managed to score a goal to even the game going into the break.
Narberth came out firing on all cylinders after the interval and Jacob Layfield put them ahead 2-1 with a tap-in from a rebound.
Fishguard tried to get back in the game and were unlucky not to score. However, they were met with fierce defence from Tom Miller on the left and Jason Jones, the centre back.
Jones then put Narberth 3-1 up from a superb free-kick that rocked the back of the net.
Fishguard did steal another goal late in the game to make it 3-2, but Narberth held them off for a well-deserved away victory, after Dalis Galvin came off the bench to show some great touches with his array of class.
The game didn't come without its share of lively, feisty tackles, and as a result each team earned a yellow card, but another all-round solid performance from the thirds, who overall were the better disciplined outfit.
Narberth team: Callum O'Connell, Dafydd Wright, Rory Jolly, Andrew Thomas, Mikey Jolly, Jacob Layfield, Tom Miller, Jason Jones, Jonathon Marson, Luke Davies, Jake Harden. Substitutes - Tom Walters, Dalis Galvin, Brychan David. Coach - Johnny Jolly.
