Monkton Swifts 3 Narberth 0
Narberth remain top of the table despite suffering their first league defeat of the season at Monkton Lane last Saturday.
In a fairly even first half, goal scoring opportunities were few and far between. Monkton were ahead early in the second half, as a Daniel Scourfield free kick went in at the near post.
It wasn't long before the Swifts had doubled their advantage, as a Narberth attack had broken down and a long clearance resulted in a break away goal, with Ben Adams netting from close range.
Narberth went into the game with several players injured or suspended and things were about to worse for the Bluebirds! Jordan Williams had already limped off in the first half and goalkeeper John Durbridge and Aled Thomas were forced to leave the field in the second period. Midfielder Adi Jones replaced Durbridge in goal, but he could not prevent Marcus Blair from scoring a third goal for the home side.
Narberth had a couple of chances as Monkton 'keeper Lance Creece tipped a Morgan Preece effort over the bar and Matthew Price side footed the ball wide, but any hope of a comeback was never really on the cards.
Narberth player/manager Matthew Price said: "I was quite happy at half-time, but the first goal was always going to be very important. We need to bounce back on Saturday."
Tomorrow (Saturday), Narberth visit Kilvey Fords in the second round of the West Wales Cup, kick-off is at 2 pm.
Narberth: John Durbridge (Dean Morris), Aled Thomas (Wayne Scourfield), Scott Delaney, Jamie Fleig, Iestyn Scourfield, Marc Hughes, Jordan Williams (Rob Shipton), Adi Jones, Tony Evans, Matthew Price, Morgan Preece.
