Narberth 3
West Dragons 1
Narberth progressed to round two of the West Wales Cup last Saturday after a hard fought victory over the West Dragons at Jesse Road.
Player/manager Matthew Price made several changes to the side; Simon Cole returned to the defence, there was a first start of the season for Adi Jones in midfield and Dean Morris played up front. Top goal scorers Tony Evans and Matthew Price were on the bench.
In a competitive first half, chances were few and far between, although, Narberth's Dean Morris had a shot cleared off the line and Dragons' Scott Crawford twice forced Narberth 'keeper John Durbridge into action.
Five minutes into the second half, Narberth took the lead when Dorian Davies scored with a stunning free-kick, firing his effort over the wall and into the bottom corner.
Goal number two quickly followed for Narberth when wide player Morgan Preece crossed from the left and Adi Jones placed a first-time effort into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Narberth had defender Richard Henton sent off for dissent, but it did not prevent them from going three goals ahead. A great passing move between Jordan Williams and Morgan Preece resulted in Preece hammering the ball into the roof of the net.
Bradley Barrett headed a goal back for the Dragons with 14 minutes remaining, but the 10 men of Narberth defended well and any chance of a Dragons comeback was never really on the cards.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Narberth entertain St. Clears in the first round of the Senior Cup, kick-off 2 pm.
Narberth fielded: John Durbridge, Richard Henton, Jamie Fleig, Simon Cole, Iestyn Scourfield, Justin Blewitt, Dorian Davies, Adi Jones, Dean Morris (Tony Evans), Jordan Williams (Matthew Price), Morgan Preece (Aled Thomas).
