Goodwick United 2

Narberth lost in the league for the second time this season at Phoenix Park last Saturday.

In a highly contested affair, Narberth had the first scoring opportunity as Aled Thomas set up player/manager Matthew Price, whose initial effort and rebound were saved by James Gwilt in the Goodwick goal.

Narberth lost Simon Cole due to injury midway through the half. The injury was later confirmed as knee ligament damage and Cole could be out for the rest of the season.

It was 41 minutes before the deadlock was broken, Goodwick's Rhys Dalling firing home via the upright.

Narberth's response was instant as midfielder Adi Jones shrugged off a couple of challenges before placing the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors started the second half very well and Jones saw his free-kick crash against the crossbar, before Justin Blewitt appeared to head Narberth in front, but the referee adjudged that the ball had not crossed the line.

At the other end, Narberth 'keeper Durbridge made a good save to deny Steve Evans.

When it looked like a draw was on the cards, Wayne O'Sullivan headed home a free-kick, with the Narberth players looking for an offside decision that wasn't given.

Narberth player/manager Matthew Price said: "All credit to Goodwick, but we are gutted to lose the game in that way; I felt a draw would have been a fair result."

Narberth remain top of the table, but rivals Hakin United have two games in hand and are just one point behind.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Narberth host Hundleton.

Narberth team: John Durbridge, Jamie Fleig, Kyle Quartermaine, Simon Cole (Iestyn Scourfield), Richard Henton, Marc Hughes (Tony Evans), Justin Blewitt, Adi Jones, Aled Thomas, Matthew Price, Morgan Preece (Jordan Williams).
