There was another success to join the Pembrokeshire Cup final win and the recent promotion to Division 1 West for Tenby Utd on Sunday when the very recently formed Tenby Seasiders 7s team decided at the last minute to enter the annual Newport (Pembs.) 7s tournament. Following the highs of the last few week,s the boys from Tenby Utd were hungry for more rugby and so they decided last Friday to enter into the tournament to satisfy their cravings, and that they certainly did, by not only playing extremely well, considering they hadn't done any 7s training at all, but by bringing home the Newport 7s plate award. Setting off from the South Parade early Sunday morning with two disposable BBQs and a box of finest quality meats kindly sponsored by Heywoods, of Saundersfoot, the boys were confident that they were going to have a good day out as they headed north to picturesque Newport. On arrival, they found out that they were in a very tough group and that they were going to have their work cut out, but after a few words of encouragement from trip leader and 7s veteran Jack Guerreiro, the nerves were soon gone and they took to the field to play their first game against Caddies Carthorses. The Tenby Seasiders comfortably won the game by five tries one and they came from the tournament's eventual highest try scorer Damo Miller who ran in three tries, with Jonathan Rogers and Guerreiro both joining him on the scoresheet with one a piece. Next up were the Jolly Sailors and a brace of tries each from Seasiders Mark Heywood and Jack Price meant that they had won their second game easily by four tries to one. The third game of the day was another one-sided affair as the Tenby boys ran in five tries to their opponents Seven Sons of Simon's one. Tries from that victory came courtesy of two each from Heywood and Miller and one from Luke Dedman. The fourth visit to the pitch for the Seasiders ended in a four tries to one defeat against a very strong Crusaders side who play regularly on the national 7s circuit. Tenby's only try came from Jack Price. Despite losing their last pool game, United were still through to the semi-final of the main competition and it was a big ask for the boys who had only entered originally for fun, and the result as expected, went in favour of their opponents, the Flamingos who are also regulars on the circuit. The semi-final ended in defeat by six tries to two and the Seasiders scores were earned by Guerreiro and Miller. As semi-final runners-up, the Tenby boys were automatically through to the plate final which would ultimately decide the third and fourth best sides overall and they certainly did all proud by running out winners by four tries to the Preseli Bah Bah's three and the tries by Price, Miller, Hansford and Dedman meant that the Tenby Seasiders ended up bringing home the plate trophy and finishing the day in third place overall. This in itself is a brilliant achievement as the Newport Pembs. 7s competition attracts some of the best amateur 7s teams in the UK. After the plate final, Jack Guerreiro said that he was extremely proud of the boys for their success and that they couldn't have done it without him! The Newport Plate trophy will sit proudly amongst the rest of the season's accolades at tonight's (Friday) Tenby Utd annual dinner dance which will
