Early morning blue sky and sunshine gave way to overcast skies for our May Friendly Foursomes on Friday evening. As always, there was a lovely, convivial atmosphere, both on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards, where Matt (2) and Sophie looked after our every need. Sadly again there was a dearth of men signed up, but those that were lucky enough to draw partners had a lovely evening of golf, followed by supper and drinks in the clubhouse. Laura McQueen and Richard Reed even boasted a two on the difficult 12th, though Dinah soon dampened his ardour with a lemonade 'accidently' poured in his lap! Bev Owen and Derek Bath won their entry fee back in the bag draw; but the winners with a superb 32 points over 14 holes were Sarah Waring and David T. Morgan. Laura and Richard came in second with 29 points, having had a slow start! After some discussion, it was decided that we would try putting the next Friendly Foursomes (August 8) on the computer for signing in, in the hope that we might have a few more MEN signing up. Remember, you don't have to have another half to play in these, but your significant other can always join us for a meal after in the clubhouse. The Mathias Thomas Foursomes Medal Cup is on Sunday, May 25, and can be signed up for now on the computer. Open Week mixed on June 1 only has one four ball place left, but needs one more lady to play with a visiting man. Friday, June 27, at 4 pm, is the Sam Ackerman Trophy. A chance to get your name on a board in the clubhouse! Again signing up will be on the computer and this is a draw for partners.
