The double is on for St. Clears after they won a hard fought match against Haverfordwest Cricket Club in the semi-final of the Division Three Cup.

Manager Craig Weston admitted to having frayed nerves and finger nails bitten to the bone after witnessing his side leave it late to score the winner as Sean Seymour-Davies's strike proved the difference between the sides.

Describing it as a strike could be a misnomer as it was more like a toe-poke from a yard or two following a long throw by Steve Thomas, but the rapturous scenes that greeted the goal were worthy of a shot from 30 yards, such was the pressure of the game.

This was the third time the teams had met this season and each one has been a close affair. Playing with the slope and wind in the first half, the Saints made all the running but couldn't control the ball in the final third in order to create enough clear cut chances.

Fearing their efforts may have been spent in the first half, they faced the second with trepidation, but managed to muster enough energy to place the home side under pressure. It finally told when the decisive goal came after 87 minutes of attritional football and, if that wasn't cause for celebration, then the news that promotion is confirmed after Narberth seconds drew with Pennar seconds definitely was.

Understandably, Weston was overjoyed with the result.

"It was tense, that's for sure. We left it pretty late to score the goal and you could always sense that one goal would win it for either side.

"It's no more than the boys deserve; they've been brilliant all season and deserve a chance to play in a final."

Narberth first team went down to a shock 1-0 home defeat at the hands of struggling Solva. The pitch at Jesse Road may have been showing the effects of weeks of rain, but that's no excuse for losing to a side that has been haemorrhaging goals of late.

It was the Bluebirds' first defeat since before Christmas, but no-one would have predicted that first loss would have come against a team that has been struggling of late.

The visitors turned up with their strongest side of the season and scored their only goal after 25 minutes. Before and after that Narberth were the team more likely to score as they shaved the post, hit the crossbar and forced a couple of saves, but Solva were in determined mood and even that sort of pressure wasn't going to faze them as Steve Jones admitted they deserved to win.

"They played out of their skins and sometimes you just have to give credit to the opposition.

"We dominated the first half, but for that breakaway goal, but we didn't really create enough quality chances to score. They did a job on us and in all fairness they deserved it."

Tenby went down to Merlins Bridge as they lost 4-1 at home. Jordan Richards scored the Seasiders' only goal in an otherwise one-sided match as the Wizards proved their championship credentials.

Carew won again following a 1-0 win over Herbrandston away from home. If winning wasn't such a shock given their form of late, the fact that James Buckle didn't score was. James Hinchliffe was the man to net home the winner as he continued his good record in front of goal with an excellent strike.

Kilgetty travelled to Letterston in the knowledge that a win there would be the proverbial six-pointer and that the points would do their survival hopes no harm.

Sadly for them they came away with nothing as they went down 2-1.

Allen Hurst's team need 29 points to guarantee staying in division two, another 13 on their current tally, and with eight games left they can certainly do it, yet they need a win and they certainly need it fast, especially with the period of midweek madness on the horizon.

Saundersfoot Sports' confidence was evident for all to see as they entertained Goodwick seconds and sent them packing following a 3-1 win. The visitors failed to cope with the home side as brothers Nicky and Richard Cope both scored alongside a Geoff Marsh effort.

Pendine are almost certainly going to be relegated after losing 9-0 at home to Broad Haven, while Narberth seconds still have an outside chance of going up after they drew 0-0 with Pennar Robins.

After scoring 13 last week, Lawrenny continued where they left off by slamming six past Clarbeston Road's reserves. Joe Kidney was at it again for the home side as he finished with a brace, while Tom Lewis, Barry Phillips and Chris Beff were the others to find the back of the net.

The visitors' misery was compounded when they conceded an own goal late on.

Tenby seconds won 3-2 at Manorbier United in a hotly contested derby, while in division four, Carew seconds drew 3-3 with their counterparts from Herbrandston as Tom Arthur, Alex Bailey and Rhys Davies all scored.

St. Florence, meanwhile, lost 4-1 away at Milford Athletic.

Kilgetty seconds' game against Pembroke Boro was postponed, while St. Clears went down 2-1 at home against Hundleton seconds, despite Simon Bancroft finding the back of the net once more for the Saints' second string.

Not such a good day either for Lawrenny's reserves as they lost 4-0 away at West Dragons.
