Winter may have descended with a vengeance on the eastern side of the UK, but for Pembrokeshire footballers it was the usual case of rain stops play as out of the scheduled matches, only three were able to take place last Saturday.

Narberth, Kilgetty, Pendine, St. Clears and their respective second teams were all forced to twiddle their thumbs as waterlogged pitches put paid to any football.

For the record, the games that did go ahead involved Angle, who lost 8-2 at home to West Dragons in division two, Manorbier, who won 6-1 at home against Broad Haven in division three, and Cosheston Cougars, who defeated Milford United seconds 6-2 at home.

Sam Reeve was the inspiration behind Manorbier's magnificent win, finishing the game with a hat-trick, while Neil Lane completed a brace and Rob Sawyer one to seal the win, their 10th of the season.

With another unsettled forecast predicted for the week ahead, it's anyone's guess how many games will have to be postponed for another week, yet for those teams already behind in their fixtures, another weekend without football means more games will be packed into midweek when the nights draw out in April.

Brace of braces brings brace of wins for 'bier

MANORBIER 6 BROADHAVEN 1

Having given Broadhaven a 'proper doing' in the away fixture just a couple of weeks previously, Manorbier were confident that - in the return fixture on home turf - they would once again be taking the spoils.

It turned out to be one of the more dominant displays that Manorbier have put in this season, and they thus handed out a 'real right good doing' to a hapless Broadhaven side.

Manorbier started with Spic and The Foreigner up front, a partnership that is starting to resemble Beardsley and Lineker for its instinctive interplay, clinical finishing and appreciation of lightly salted crisps.

Through midfield, Blackwell and Wholesale Dummy Vendor Askew once again built exquisite triangles, and Ben Hall and Rob Sawyer marauded up the flanks. 'Liam' came in at left back, joining Twinkle Toes Williams, Gramps Maytum and Groiny Grover in a very solid line-up.

Notable, however, was James Llewellyn, who was once again truly outstanding in goal, marshalling the back four, hurling himself around like a box of fireworks, and coming out of his goal faster than Will Young at a Kylie concert, to snuffle a number of attacks.

The pattern of the game seemed destined to follow that of the away fixture, with Manorbier taking an early two-goal lead thanks to fine strikes by Lane and Spic (who cleverly under-hit one of his shots so that it trickled under the 'keeper). Askew once again put on a masterclass of dummy-selling, making Marseille-era Chris 'Merlin' Waddle look like Steve Bould with gout in comparison, thus crushing the spirit of the visitors, who were broken just before half-time when Spic bagged his brace.

One could imagine the Broadhaven manager rousing his side during the interval, talking about the criticality of the next goal, how they could get themselves back into the game with enough battle and heart - but his rhetoric soon counted for nought, just as it had two weeks previously, when within 20 seconds of the kick-off, Rob 'lungs' Sawyer had drilled the ball past the away side's 'keeper to take the lead to 4-0.

Manorbier made sure that legs stayed fresh as they brought on Gav 'mad dog' Evans, Mike 'It' Brown (who had recently made himself look even scarier by trading in his curly locks for a Grade 1 ASBO-chic skinhead) and Jake Webster.

Manorbier took their tally to six, with Lane scoring his fifth in two games, and an OG rubbing salt into what must have been very sore Broadhaven wounds.

The visitors nabbed a consolation goal when James Llewellyn kindly gave them an open goal to shoot at from a free-kick, but the day was very much Manorbier's as they continue their romp back up the third division table.
