After a two-week hiatus, Pembrokeshire's footballers would have been chomping at the bit to return to the playing fields of the county and for the majority of teams this was the case as a near full programme of fixtures took place, providing you didn't play for Narberth firsts and Pendine that is.

Whereas this time last year, the fields were frozen stiff following one of the worst winters on record, it was a case of waterlogged pitches that caused the postponements of matches for these teams.

Narberth were due to travel to Merlins Bridge in the first division and Pendine were due to entertain the Wizards' seconds in division three, yet no amount of magical intervention was able to get these games going; sometimes mother nature is just far too strong.

Tenby used to have a history of postponements for home games, but ever since a drainage scheme was introduced a few years ago, cancellations have been few and far between.

Just as well, as the Seasiders were able to take the field and show just how good they are with a 5-1 demolition of Johnston.

Darryl Mansbridge and Jordan Richards both finished the game with two goals apiece, with Billy Vaughan nipping in for the other.

Of all the teams you would have expected to be affected by the weather, Kilgetty is one of them, yet they managed to get the game going against St. Ishmaels. That proved to be the only success for them, however, as another defeat leaves them in the relegation zone following a 4-1 defeat. Adam Johns's strike was the only bright spot on an otherwise miserable afternoon for the Kingsmoor outfit as the visitors proved too good on the day.

Carew entertained Saundersfoot in their first derby of 2012 and, according to home team boss Barry Evans, it was a typical affair. Hard fought, close, with a draw being the best result.

A draw is not what they got though as they went down 2-1. Carew opened the scoring with a goal by Haydn Shapcott that was against the run of play, before Russell Evans equalised for the visitors just before the break.

An improved performance by the home team in the second half should have seen them run out winners, but Saundersfoot held on to secure victory as Richard Cope scored via a free-kick with the last kick of the game.

"It wasn't the best of games," said Evans. "We're disappointed, but that's the way it goes, we need to get back up to scratch next week against Kilgetty."

St. Clears ended the year on a high and they began the new one in the same vein after a 5-2 win over Lawrenny in the quarter-final of the division three cup. The result means the dream of a league and cup double is on for Craig Weston's men and in this type of form, who is going to bet against it?

Dorian Davies and Steve Thomas led the way with a brace apiece, with Ian Derbyshire adding the other for good measure as the Saints took control against spirited opposition, for whom Dean Morris scored twice.

Tenby seconds didn't make the next round after they went down 5-1 against Haverfordwest Cricket Club. Liam Culshaw's goal was the only highlight in an otherwise bleak afternoon for the visitors.

Back in league action and Narberth seconds completed the double over Broad Haven as they entertained the Seasiders at Jesse Road and came away with a hard fought 4-3 win.

Ryan Williams struck twice for the home side, before Callum O'Connell and Mike Ryder ensured victory was secured.

Manorbier United had a great start to 2012 with a 4-2 home win over Clarbeston Road's second team.

Neil Lane scored twice alongside Rob Sawyer and Ben Hall to help stabilise their position after a slide down the league in recent weeks.

Saundersfoot seconds had a comfortable win over Milford Athletic's reserves as they secured a 6-1 home win.

Chris Milward led the rout with two goals, before Gareth Hunt, Alan Roberts, Phil Horsley and Jamie Morgan all got in on the act.

Not such a good day for St. Florence, however, as they lost 3-1 at home to Fishguard Sports, with Billy Connor scoring their only goal.

Carew seconds went down by the same margin and the same score after they travelled to St. Ishmaels. Ceri Brace grabbed their only goal.

In division five, Kilgetty seconds grabbed the biggest win of the day as they ran rings around Lamphey seconds. Playing away from home, the league's least successful side were never in the hunt as they conceded 13 goals without reply.

The result did nothing for the visitors' standing in the division, although having played the fewest amount of games, it will have boosted their chances of climbing the table now that the second half of the season is firmly under way.
