A bright sunny day greeted 21 avid Kilgetty Golf Society players to the links/parkland of Swansea Bay Golf Club.

The draw resulted in the following threesomes; Dave Boy Green, Barry Chippy Wood and Keith Director Leverton; Peter Bandit Hughes, Wynne AndyCapp Richards and Steve Gizmo Jones; Martin FCUK Davies, Steve Eleanor Rigby and Trevor Santa Lewis; John Flutter Williams, Anthony Wiseguy Ryan, and new member Craig The Foreigner Susdorf; Stuart Delboy Evans, John Scribe James, and Simon Swan Davies; Mike Maureen Allen, John Pashmina Perrott and Kelvin Blinds Boughey; Tom Timber Woods, Shaun Chatterbox Taylor; and Roger Doom-Bar Woodward.

The course was still suffering from the winter rains, the bunkers bereft of sand, but the greens were not too bad. Scores were lower than expected, no-one achieving par.

Group one came in with a total of 76 pts, 23, 26 and 27, respectively. This was bettered by the second threesome, 26, 30 and 25 for an aggregate of 81. The third trio improved the combined total to 83 pts, 22, 31 and 30, respectively. The fourth combination went three better, setting a target of 86 pts, individual scores being 28, 31 and 27.

Unfortunately, the progress was not maintained by group five. Delboy had a dreadful front nine (8 pts), followed by 18 on the back nine - took him nine holes to warm up! The Scribe, playing for the first time after an ileostomy operation in October, could only scrape together 15 points in 18 holes - it was easier walking the course being three stone lighter! The Swan had a bad day and struggled to 18 points.

Sixth off trio had a good round, amassing 80 pts, Maureen, on two handicap, did well to score 29, Pashmina managed 23, and Blinds had a useful 27.

Finally it was the turn of threesome seven. Timber found the course to his liking, notching up 33 pts, Chatterbox had a poor round, 20 pts, and Doom Bar 24 pts, for a total of 77.

After an excellent meal, the distribution of goodies began. First of all, Steve welcomed Craig to the society.

In first place with 33 pts was Tom Timber Woods; second was Anthony Wiseguy Ryan and third was Steve Eleanor Rigby.

Nearest the pin, Timber at 5ft 6in.(about his height!), longest drive once again went to Chatterbox, 20-plus handicap went to AndyCapp. There were no twos.

Team prize was won by group four, Flutter, Wiseguy and The Foreigner.

The wooden spoon went to yours truly, the Scribe - my drives were OK, but the short game was atrocious.

Next month the venue is The Bells in the Forest of Dean - now fully booked.
