Kilgetty Golf Society's Annual Awards were presented at the January meeting at South Pembs Golf Club.
The society has had a successful year in which a total of 44 golfers, including a substantial number of new members, have participated at 12 different venues within Pembrokeshire and further afield. Prestigious venues such as Machynys and Ashburnham provided testing, but thoroughly enjoyable experiences, while some of our local courses, e.g. Trefloyne and Priskilly, were equally savoured both in golfing and culinary terms.
An away trip to the Gower Golf Club began the year which ended with a Christmas Bash at Milford Haven GC. Newport, Garnant, Glynhir, Haverfordwest, and Derllys Court also entertained us royally.
The year 2014 will provide more challenges, thrills, and laughs, as the society returns to some old favourites whilst venturing to some new venues.
The Annual Awards are based on each member's best six rounds during the year.
The winner of the coveted shield was Barry Chippy Wood who, despite his great age, is known as 'Mr. Consistency' and managed to average 32.7 Stableford points.
Second with an excellent average of 32.0 was Shaun Chatterbox Taylor - just missing out after an uncharacteristic bad round at Milford. In third place came Peter Bandit Hughes 31.8 - only beaten by two bigger bandits! Fourth was Darrell Smoothie Jones with 30.5, despite his protestations about his handicap. Close behind in fifth was Roger Doombar Woodward with 30.3, just beating off a number of close pursuers.
The winner of the 20-plus handicap prize was Anthony Wiseguy Ryan with 30.0 points.
Each member was surprised to receive a magnificent framed photograph of themselves at one of the year's meetings. Thanks go to Martin FCUK Davies and John Pashmina Perrott for the hard work in the preparation of the pictures.
The annual Wooden Spoon was sort of presented for the second year running to that good sport, Paul Goodbuy Marsden, although he tried his best to avoid it, hence we don't have a picture of him.
Bottles of wine were also presented by Steve Gizmo Jones to Smoothie and Chatterbox, who had the most longest drives (three each); and to Smoothie, Simon Simples Woods, and the Bandit for most nearest the pins (two each).
Finally, that young, upcoming golfer, Kelvin Curtains Boughey was presented with a bottle of wine for performance of the year, or maybe it was a lifetime achievement award, for his 30 points achieved at Ashburnham. Keep it up Kelvin.
Thanks to everyone who participated in 2013 and good luck for 2014. New members welcome - please visit http://www.kilgettygolf.co.uk">www.kilgettygolf.co.uk for further details.
