West Dragons 1

Narberth remain second in the Pembrokeshire League Division One table after a hard fought victory over the West Dragons at Jesse Road on Saturday.

This was an important win for the Bluebirds, as all teams in the top five picked up victories.

John Durbridge returned in goal for Narberth after suspension and it was all change up front as player/manager Matthew Price returned alongside Tony Evans and it was Evans who had an assist and a goal to his name before the afternoon was out.

Narberth started the game with great purpose and Dorian Davies saw his right-footed drive crash against the post.

The home side were soon ahead as they hit the Dragons on the counter-attack, Evans released Ashley Williams, who beat the Dragons 'keeper Dan Birch at his near post.

Narberth continued to press and Price set up Davies, who blazed over, while Price had a tame effort saved by Birch.

The Dragons' only real chance of the first half fell to Jonny Horgan, who fired wide.

The second half saw both sides miss scoring opportunities.

For Narberth, Price hit the post, Birch saved a Davies drive and Price set up Evans, but somehow Dragons defender Bradley Barrett cleared the danger.

The Dragons also had chances as Jonny Horgan shot high and wide.

Scott Crawford saw his header cleared off the line by Richard Henton and the same player forced a good save out of Durbridge in the Narberth goal.

Narberth were awarded a penalty with 12 minutes remaining after Price had been brought down in the box by Ian Harries.

Tony Evans drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

In an exciting game, Narberth substitute Rob Shipton missed a couple of chances before Crawford headed a consolation goal for the Dragons deep into injury time.

Narberth player/manager Price said: "It is a big win for us, Dragons have been getting some very good results of late".
