On Thursday, February 28, Heatherton were hosts to the first round of the Men's Welsh Open Fours Competition, in which we had a vested interest as this was won by a Heatherton team, Chris Bromham, Alan Whitehouse, Michael Jackson and John Roberts last season (writes I.E.).

Three teams from Heatherton were in the first round, two at Heatherton and one at Llanelli on Friday, March 1.

All three teams were successful in reaching the next round, which is due to be played on March 24. We wish them all well.

We would like to especially thank Mrs. Collette Bethwaite for stepping in at the last minute to umpire the games played at Heatherton.

Sunday saw Heatherton ladies play at home in their final friendly game of the season against The Meads ladies.

The Meads were unfortunately one player short, but managed to persuade a very kind gentleman named Tony Hancock to play for them.

Playing on all four rinks, the results were as follows (Heatherton first, Meads skips only):

Cynthia Evans, Moira Chadd, Di Disney, Kay Cole 17; Mary Lewis 20.

Lyn Statters, Audrey Williams, Jo Shewry, Viv Kerrison 20; Margaret Carter 18.

Christine Harris, Collette Bethwaite, Sue Roden, Lorna Bissell 32; Val Hubbard 16.

Penny Brickle, Val Davies, Rene Silcox, Margaret Lewis 23; Joan Collins 13.

Heatherton won overall 92-67, which is, I believe, the first game in which we have trounced our opposition for some time.

Following the game, refreshments were provided by the ladies of Heatherton, together with a raffle in aid of the ladies' section of the club.

A very enjoyable afternoon for all the ladies, and gentleman, and we look forward to seeing our friends at the Meads again next season.
