THE Mel Neale Trophy is an open competition for juniors across Pembrokeshire, and it remembers a very popular club captain at Trefloyne, who was also at various times a member of Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Golf Clubs.

On June 6th at Trefloyne, Mel’s daughter, Joan, was there to watch the play and present the prizes – along with her daughter Liliwen who is herself an enthusiastic member of Trefloyne’s Junior Academy.

The weather was kind and there were some really good scores, with the winner and runner-up both taking advantage of playing at home.

But players from other clubs weren’t going to be left out, as the results show when you look at the top eight.

Sophia Mills of Machynys played very well for her 22 points, with Haverfordwest’s Nathanial Sandy coming home with a creditable 29, to take seventh place.

Laci Reynolds from Haverfordwest returned 30 points, for fifth place and to take the best girl’s spot from Trefloyne’s Kayla Arthur, after a countback on the second nine.

Josh Richards from Trefloyne was fourth with 31, and he also bagged a sleeve of balls for the longest drive.

Tenby’s Kazuki Tran came third overall with a great score of 34 points, also taking home a sleeve of balls, this time for nearest-the-pin.

Trefloyne took the honours at the top, with Ethan Brace carding an excellent 38 points for the runner-up spot.

On most days, 38 could easily do it, but it was Will Morgan’s 42 that took the trophy, after he’d played exceptionally well.

All in all, the day was a lovely tribute to a wonderful past captain, and a deep breath of hope for the future.
