Seniors v
A bright sunny Thursday, September 1, saw Milford Haven seniors welcomed to Trefloyne Golf Club for the return match.
Milford had won at home in April and Trefloyne were hoping to level the scores.
Leading off were Mike Allen and Wayne Connett for Trefloyne, Tony Davey and Chris Harding for Milford. After a fairly even front nine, which saw Milford hold a slender one hole lead, the Trefloyne pair got their act together to win the next three holes. Undaunted, the Milford pair struck back, winning the next two to level the score. However, wins on the next two holes and a half on the 16th saw Mike and Wayne victors by 2 and 1.
Second to play were Jack Zeraschi and Keith Hubbard against Owen Picton and Billy Hier. After winning the first four holes, this looked like a stroll in the park for Jack and Keith, however, the Milford pair fought back winning the sixth and seventh to be two down at the turn. Wins on the 10th and 14th put the home pair four up with four to play, but a 4 net 3 from Billy on 15, and a par from Owen on the 16th meant the away pair were not giving in. However a win on the 17th saw the Trefloyne pair home 3 and 1.
Next off were Pat Casement and Keith Warmington, playing Phil Davies and Gerald Charles. After losing the first, Pat and Keith went into overdrive, winning the next seven holes to lead six up after nine. The lead was slowly whittled down to three with four to play, but a win on the 15th saw Pat and Keith win 4 and 3.
Alun Williams and John Drury paired up to play Brian Mitchell and Mike Durward. After a close first five holes, Alun and John took charge of this game, winning three of the next four to lead by three at the turn. Wins on the next four holes saw Alun and John home 7 and 5 winners.
In the next game, Dennis Holloway and John Voysey paired up to play R. Brock and P. Keen. Wins on the fourth, fifth and sixth gave the home pair a comfortable three-hole lead after nine. The back nine was a tighter affair, with the away pair winning two holes to one to cut the lead back over the next seven holes. A win on the 17th for the home pair was enough for a 3 and 1 win.
Roger Woodward and Trevor Lewis played G. Scale and C. Naylor in the next match. In a close fought game, there was little between either pair, but Roger and Trevor edged to a 2 and 1 win.
In the next game, Graham Harrison was joined by Dave McMann to play A. Dark and T. Edwards. After halves on the first two holes, Graham and Dave went on to win six of the next seven holes. A further win on their 11th was enough to see Graham and Dave win 7 and 6.
The last game pairings of John Perrott and Bryn Hughes against Alan Dennison and Fred Woodward was a really close affair, with both pairs taking a one hole lead at some time or other. However, when the away team took the lead on their 17th it looked grim, but John and Bryn fought back, winning the last hole for a fair half.
Final score Trefloyne 7.5 Milford Haven .5
