Rossiter crowned Saturday Swingers champion after thrilling finish

THE long established Saturday Swingers GS held its annual Swingers’ Day at Tenby Golf Club recently.

Although there was a very strong breeze, which changed from a westerly to an easterly in the afternoon, the sunny weather was ideal for golf and the scoring was generally good.

The greens may have been slower than some would have liked but the famous links were generally in a pristine overall condition. Following the golf, the Swingers enjoyed a fantastic meal in the Links Restaurant which was prepared by Head Chef Scott Edwards and his team.

15 Swingers scored at least 30pts. John Stenson and Dai Cope both carded an excellent 38pts for joint third place. Gary Mckeown was runner up with 39pts. However, the evergreen Phil Goodridge who is one of ‘The Oldest Swingers in Town’ came home with a magnificent 41pts which included an outrageous 24pts on the back nine!

Mike Anthony was victorious on the last Swingers’ Tour in September but he fell from ‘Champ’ to ‘Chump’ scoring 24pts although his playing partners were not a lot better.

This is awarded to the Swinger with the best 12 scores throughout the previous year. The Swingers’ Day scores counted towards the aggregate.

Several Swingers were in contention and the lead changed hands on a few occasions throughout the day.

Nicky Allen and Darren Thomas were equal fourth with 429pts. Austin Davies totalled 430pts and Spencer Harries finished second with 432pts.

However, this year’s Swingers’ Champion is Dean Rossiter. He improved by four pts in his final round and aggregated an excellent 433pts.

Swingers’ Day: Phil Goodridge – 41pts, Gary McKeown – 39pts, Dai Cope & John Stenson – both 38pts, Craig Thomas – 37pts, Spencer Harries, Martin Morris & Dean Rossiter – all 36pts, Neil Proctor – 35pts and Darren Thomas & Gary McNeilly – both 34pts.

Best ‘Secret’ Three: Gary McNeilly, Craig Thomas & John Stenson – 109pts.

Twos: Juan Cruz and Phil Young.

Nearest the Pins: Neil Webb and Simon Evans.

Longest Drives: Dai Cope and Colin Murphy.

Nearest the Pins in 2 Shots: Tony Rogers, Gary McNeilly (x 2), Colin Murphy and Richard Noyce.

Best 12 Scores Aggregate: Dean Rossiter – 433pts, Spencer Harries – 432 pts, Austin Davies – 430pts, Nicky Allen and Darren

Thomas – both 429pts, Phil Young – 425pts, Neil Webb – 422pts, Juan Cruz – 421pts, Jon Webb – 419pts and Chris Evans – 417pts.

Swingers’ Day was a great success as usual. The golf was taken seriously but the evening was full of fun and laughter.
