TENBY Golf Club hosted the annual Neil Rees Memorial recently. The principal competition is for golfers whom must have previously played rugby for Tenby United RFC.
Unfortunately, there were heavy rain and strong winds throughout most of the day.
Consequently, this awful weather severely restricted the number of entrants.

Most but not all of the “no shows” had the courtesy of informing the organisers.
Nevertheless, those who took part thoroughly enjoyed the day both on the links and reminiscing afterwards.
Gary ‘Gus’ Carswell left Tenby about 28 years ago for Burnley in Lancashire where he has forged a successful career in the aerospace industry. Nowadays he plays regularly at Nelson Golf Club.

Gary’s round trip of almost 500 miles proved very worthwhile.
He won this year’s Neil Rees Cup with an excellent 35pts including 21pts on the back nine.
Good friends Richard Rossiter and Nicky Allen were a close second and third respectively.
Andrew Cope won the senior section with 30pts, Lewis Tingay was the best novice with 31pts and Joost Geertman was the top Guest with 32pts.

Neil Rees tragically died in a car accident back in 1987. He was just 22 years old and played both golf and rugby to a high standard. Neil’s younger brother, Nicky, presented the prizes.
The leading scores in the Neil Rees Cup were Gary Carswell – 35pts, Richard Rossiter – 34pts, Nicky Allen – 33pts, Ian Thomas – 32pts, Ben Diment - 30pts, Andrew Cope – 30 pts, Paul Haley – 29pts and Chris Hughes – 28pts
