Pembrokeshire is flying the flag for girls cricket!

Following the successful creation of an U11 girls cricket league last year, teams from all eight secondary schools took part in an Under 13 cricket tournament this month.

As a result of its success, a new Under 13 girls schools league is now being formed.

Kwik Cricket teams from the county's secondary school took to the pitch for the Lady Taverners U13 girls cricket tournament this month.

After a round robin stage, teams from Sir Thomas Picton, Milford Haven, Fishguard and Greenhill battled it out in the final at Tenby Leisure Centre on Wednesday, March 13.

Milford Haven defeated STP in the final and - as Pembrokeshire champions - will now progress to the Welsh national finals at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff at the end of April.

Cricket development officer for Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - Matt Freeman said all the girls in the Lady Taverners competition had played to an extremely high standard.

"The formation of the U13 girls school league will enable more girls to continue to play a sport they clearly enjoy, while we hope that the best of them will also be able to play for the U13 Pembrokeshire regional squad."
