Tenby AFC U7s (seen right) had a great day at the Prendergast Villa AFC Junior football Festival on Sunday.
First game of the day against a good Pennar Robins with the game ending 0-0
The boys went on to win the next two games; Tenby 2 Ely Neon 0, Tenby 3 Neyland Pirates 0. A 0-0 draw for their fourth game against Villa Greens.
It all came down to the last game against a very strong CRC Rangers. The boys showed so much strength and determination, with CRC unable to concede any goals. The boys just missed out on a place in the semi-finals due to points difference.
A massive well done to all the boys who took part, the team are getting stronge week by week and still remain undefeated, well done boys.
Team: Toby Hilling, Ollie Toy, George Hughes, Iori O’Rourke, Blake Ryder, Max Howells, Jayden Graham, Oliver Ingham. Missing from picture Ollie and George.
Mixed Fortunes for Under 12s
The final league game for the U12s (seen below) was played at home at the Clicketts on Saturday to Fishguard. The season has been a long one and, with several injuries, it was a small team to face the travelling opponents.
Within minutes of the game starting, an injury to Iori saw him trade places with Kyle in goal. This didn’t upset the team, though, and some lovely passing between defence and attack saw Max hit the back of the net, followed soon by two in quick succession from Lewis.
Some solid defence at the back from George and Ethan didn’t allow Fishguard any chances on goal. Confident in their own ability, the defence brought the ball up through midfield, with a long range effort from Ethan hitting the back of the net, much to his delight. Cas also added to the scoreline just before half-time to make it 5-0.
Keen to keep a clean sheet, Tenby remained strong, despite the gallant efforts of Fishguard, who played some lovely attacking football.
Max, able to get on the end of a great pass from the midfield, soon bought the score to six. With Kyle out of his goal, and keen to get a late goal in the season, he tackled hard, won the ball and found the back of the net, much to his and the crowd’s delight.
A further two from Lewis finished the game 9-0. A great end to the season boys.
Sunday saw the team enter the Prendergast Tournament. Again carrying a few injuries, they knew it would be a tough ask to come away with anything. However, showing strong determination and team spirit, they came out winners of their group.
The semi-finals saw them face Merlins Bridge, who were runners-up in the other group. A good performance put them through to the final with a 4-0 win.
Opponents in the final were Prendergast, who had scored a late winner in extra-time against Camrose in the other semi. After full-time, the game remained 0-0. Extra-time saw a shot from Toby go past the ’keeper and touch the side netting, to the joy of the Tenby and neutral spectators, but it wasn’t to be, with the Prendergast referee disallowing the goal, stating it had not crossed the line.
The game ended 0-0. And so to penalties, and with the boys’ heads well and truly down as they had truly believed the ball had gone in, it wasn’t to be their day. But a great result getting to the final with all the injuries the squad has had.
A few weeks off now and then it’s the Tenby Tournament, which is the boys’ favourite for obvious reasons.
It’s been a great season, with the team coming out winners of the Pembrokeshire Cup, and unfortunately losing the league at the last minute, but this will only make them stronger in the long run. They’ve scored a tremendous amount of goals, played the best football around and have made their coaches and parents very proud.
Squad: Kyle, Jack, George, Leon, Ethan, Iori, Dylan, Toby, Cas, Corey, Archie, Morgan, Max and Lewis. Well done boys.
Under 14s
The Seasiders travelled to Fishguard for their last match of the season.
Having already secured the league title without dropping a single point, the coach and players were keen to keep up the good work.
Early moments saw Joe Evans hit the post, but soon Kurt Sarrionandia got the boys ahead with a lovely goal, soon followed by a second courtesy of a super run and finish by Joe Evans. Two-nil on the half time whistle.
The second half saw Tenby dominate a little better and the goals started to flow. Dylan Morgan went on one of his runs and bagged number three, while Teejay Gardner went straight through the middle soon after with a mazey run for number four.
Fishguard kept playing some decent football, but the next goal was to be the Seasiders fifth and it was a great headed goal as well from Charlie Gregory.
From there on in it was pretty much the Jack Jones show, with yet another great hat-trick from him.
Sandwiched between was one from Will Malone, who suddenly decided to leave the linesman alone and put his efforts into the game (think he still had something to say after his goal).
So another convincing 9-0 victory, the league won without dropping a single point, the Pembrokeshire Cup won and oh so near in the West Wales Cup! Maybe next year the triple.
