On a cold and chilly morning, the undefeated Tenby Under 12s (pictured travelled to Merlins Bridge in Haverfordwest for a league game.
The game started well, with both teams anxious to take early control, but it was Tenby who were dominant and it wasn’t long before Max was able to get on the scoresheet first, soon followed by another three to his name.
Despite the gallant efforts of the Bridge defence, especially the goalkeeper who made some excellent saves throughout, Tenby created chance after chance and both Dylan K and Corey added goals, to make the half-time score 6-0.
The second half saw Merlins Bridge once again under continued pressure. Tenby were accurate with their passing and finishing and more goals followed from Archie, Ethan, Iori Lewis, Max and Corey.
To be fair, though, Merlins Bridge never let their heads drop. They battled on bravely and were eventually rewarded shortly before full-time when they managed to break past the Tenby defence to grab a deserved consolation goal.
The game ended at 17-1, but was played in great spirit throughout.
Tenby team: Max (8 goals), Archie (3), Corey (2), Dylan K (1), Lewis (1), Ethan (1), Iori (1) Kyle, Toby, Cas, Morgan and Leon (missing from picture).
UNDER 14s
After several weeks of postponements, the Seasiders faced a tough away match against Bishopston of Swansea in the quarter-final of the West Wales Cup.
Tenby started brightly on a lovely playing surface and it wasn’t long before they took the lead courtesy of a screamer of a goal from Joe Evans.
They continued to dominate and it was not before long that the lead was doubled. This came from a great team move when Charlie Gregory provided Will Malone, who slipped past a couple of players before passing to Archie Smith, who in turn slotted the ball low past the ’keeper.
To their credit, the home team didn’t give in throughout, but Rhys Mansell had little to do and often the boys from defence had licence to push on a little and this was witnessed when Ned Davies popped up for a corner, but saw his volley just go wide.
There was not long to wait before the third came, though. This time it was netted by Jack Jones, who to be fair was always keeping busy and troubling the home defence.
At the break, the score was still 3-0 to Tenby.
The second half started pretty much as it had finished, with Bishopston giving their best, but Tenby were just too strong and soon increased their lead, with Joe Evans getting his second of the day. And this was obviously catching, as Jack Jones soon bagged his second as well.
Teejay Gardner and Kurt Sarrionandia where keeping busy and Charlie Phillips was being his usual nuisance and pulling the homesters all over the place, and goal number six came from a bit of grit from Kurt, who worked his way through the defence before providing Teejay with an opportunity to net.
The lads continued to play some good stuff, but as already mentioned, great credit must go to Bishopston, who never stopped trying and were eventually rewarded with a consolation goal.
A great day for the Seasiders, who will now face Westend, another strong Swansea-based team, who were finalists in the competition last year. This semi-final will be played on a neutral ground at Carmarthen on Saturday. Good luck lads.
