The new season got underway with St. Florence girls travelling to Neyland for their opening game.

The Under 10s were playing their first game as a team, with so many girls having moved to the Under 12s team and new faces having moved up from the Under 8s. They showed in their first game that they are a really good team.

There were great displays throughout the team, with Martha in goal in the first half doing really well in her first game for St. Florence. There was great battling from Zoe and Bella, stopping Neyland from shooting, and they were both unlucky not to score.

Holly got the first goal of the game following a great run through their defence from midfield. Holly then set up a goal for Neve with a really good pass to allow Neve a chance to shoot.

Neve scored the next one all by herself with a brilliant run and finish, to cap what was an amazing display all over the pitch.

Neyland got a goal back before half-time when a corner was deflected into the St. Florence goal.

In the second half, although still creating chances, St. Florence were unable to score another goal, but managed to hold on to win the game, despite Neyland scoring another goal.

It was a great start to the season by the girls.

Team of the day: Martha Randall, Neve McDonald, Zoe Morgan, Libby Scowcroft, Holly Cumberlin and Bella Evans.

St. Florence Girls Under 12s (seen above) travelled to Neyland on a sunny Sunday morning for their first game of the season.

The team was captained by Teigan and consisted of Alex, Sienna, Fiona, Mabli, Maddy, Connie, Meg, Ruby, Laura and Ellie.

The girls have been working hard in training, so were well prepared for the game.

There were early signs of some partnerships building, with some neat passing by Maddy and Mabli in central midfield and Teigan and Ruby up front.

Connie and Megan worked tirelessly up and down the wings; Fiona, driving forward from defence, created attacking options; Sienna was solid in defence, with Laura, only in her second year of football, working hard in midfield.

The game saw St. Florence winning 10-0, with the goal scorers being: Teigan (5), Fiona (2), Mabli, Connie and Meg.

The rules in Under 12s sees the game finish once a team is up by 10 goals. St. Florence achieved this in the first half. The teams were then mixed for the second half. The mixed game saw both Alex and Ellie called into action in their roles as goalkeepers.

The mixed game finshed 1-1, with goals from Ruby and Connie.

The team would like to thank Neyland for their warm welcome and wish Carl and his Under 12s all the best for the rest of the season.

Their next game on Sunday, sees them welcome Narberth.
