Every year it is the lady captain’s privilege to hold a charity day for the charity of her choice. This year, as lady captain, I chose the Alzheimer’s Society. The competition was a Stableford open to ladies and gents.
About 80 players took part and it was good to see entrants from as far away as Langland Bay and Pontadowe, Derllys Court and Aberdare, as well as the local clubs. We were blessed with good weather and the course was in immaculate condition thanks to the hard-working greens staff.
There was also some good scoring, especially from the visitors.
Division one ladies: 1. Ros Williams 41 pts, 2. Anita Davies 36, 3. Thelma Bell from Langland Bay 34 and 4. Sue McGetrick, also from Langland Bay, 32.
Div two ladies: 1. Andrea Dudden, Haverfordwest, 36 pts, 2. Jane Ingram, Derllys Court, 33, 3. Jayne Lewis 30 and 4. Lynn Messingham 29.
Division one gents: 1. Gary Sharp 40 pts, 2. Gavin Seal from Aberdare 39, 3. Andrew Morrisey 34.
Division two gents: 1. Rob Hayward 40 pts, 2. Rob Owens from Aberdare 39, 3. David B. Williams 38 and 4. Richard Bury 37.
There were seven 2s, by Jane Ingram, Steve Davies, Richard Halliwell, Shaun Lee, Andrew Morrisey, Jamie Allen and Michael Price.
Nearest the pin on the third, Mary Lewis, on the sixth, Mike Swain, on the ninth, Jane Ingram, and on the 14th, Peter Johnson.
The trophy for the best South Pembs. lady went to Ros Williams with her fantastic score of 41 points, which was also the best score in the whole competition - well done Ros.
All prizes were donated by members and local businesses, who once again have been very generous. A big thank you goes to Bluestone, Celtic Wine, Derllys Court Golf Club, Anita Davies, Dorina, Heatherton, Highgate Inn, Hundleton, Kings Arms, Pembroke, Manor House Safari Park, Miss Designer Golf, Oakwood, Princes Gate, Lynne Rees, Robert Ryder Golf Professional, South Pembs Golf Club, Tenby Golf Club,Tesco, Thornton Motors, Milford and Vincent Davies.
I must also thank the generosity of the South Pembs. members who donated raffle prizes.
In between the presentation of prizes we held an auction, with club captain Mike Swain as auctioneer. Ian Harries went away with Robert Ryder’s golf lessons and Sue and Keith Leverton enjoyed a Sunday lunch at The View, which is the club’s restaurant.
After the golf, some enjoyed a meal or relaxed in the bar.
I would like to thank all who helped on the day, Russ the caterer and the restaurant and bar staff.
Unfortunately, Chris Stokes, community fundraiser, was unable to stay for the presentation because of other commitments, but he made a special trip to the club so that we could present him with the cheque for £1,320.
Once again thank you all for taking part and for your generosity in helping such a worthwhile cause.
A.D.
