Almost perfect conditions greeted the 21st annual Tenby Round Table Soccer Sevens, sponsored by Andrew Price.

The overnight rain softened the ground sufficiently and beautiful dry weather, with periods of sunshine, made the conditions perfect.

Forty-two teams from around the County and as far as Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and Carmarthenshire battled for the trophies in three age groups, Under 8s, 10s and 12s.

The format was two pools of seven teams, in each age group, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals and the winners of these contesting the finals.

After all the pool games had been played, the four teams through to the Under 8s semi-finals were Carmarthen Stars, Hakin United and RV8 JFC ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides. The first semi-final saw JV8 JFC ‘B’ beat ‘A’ team by a three goals to nil.

The second semi-final produced the same result as the first, 3-0, with Hakin United being victorious. The final was a real ding-dong battle, with no score after normal time and JV8 JFC nicking a ‘golden goal’. The player of the final, picked by the referee, was the Hakin’s Dion Power.

The Under 10s tournament was equally as exciting, with Tenby 9s Sharks, Carmarthen Stars, Pennar Robins and Neyland Pirates ‘Whites’ all progressing to the semi-finals. The first semi was between Pennar Robins and Tenby 9s Sharks, which saw the Robins go th

rough by two goals to nil. The second semi-final between Neyland Pirates ‘Whites’ and Carmarthen Stars was won by the Pirates by three goals to nil. In this final Neyland held on to an early lead to claim the cup. The player of this final, again picked by the referee, was Tommy from the Pirates.

Both the Under 12s semi-finals produced excellent football with the first one seeing two Carmarthen Stars battle each other.

Carmarthen Stars lost to Carmarthen Stars ‘Blacks’ by a single goal, while, in the other semi-final Tenby 12s get the better of theYnystawe Colts from Swansea by the three goals to nil.

This final was very tense with the Stars going a goal up early on. It took a superb header in the dying moments to bring the Tenby side level. No more goals were scored during extra time and the match was finally decided on penalties.

Five converted penalties by Carmathen Stars was one more than their opponents. The player of the final was Iori Badham of Tenby 12s, as selected by the referee.

All the trophies, which were sponsored by Andrew Price, were presented to the winners, runners-up and player of the final by Matt Broadhurst, from Tenby Round Table.
