Saundersfoot CP School girls football squad are jumping for joy after making it to the Urdd national finals.

The team travelled to Aberystwyth recently to take part in the tournament, with the first game seeing them come up against Dyffryn Gloywyr, which they won 3-0 with two goals from Fallon and one from striker Seren.

The second game against O M Edwards saw them win 1-0 with a break away run from Chloe who skilfully found the net.

Next up was Santes Tudful, and another win secured with Halle stepping up with her very reliable right foot to beat the goalkeeper from some distance.

After topping the group without conceding any goals, the quarter final was against Awel y Mynydd.

Saundersfoot’s keeper Libby produced some wonderful saves to keep them in the match, before a penalty shoot-out.

Each Saundersfoot penalty taker found the target, yet the Awel keeper guessed well and made some great saves, to see Saundersfoot lose 4-3.

Head teacher Mr. Nick Allen said: “It has been a wonderful season the whole squad have developed their footballing ability and every individual has improved and become a better player – it has been a real joy to witness this over the season.

“I know these girls will represent Pembrokeshire and even Wales in the future should they continue this journey.

“I would like to thank staff and parents for supporting the girls through-out the year, without this support we would not be able to offer these opportunities to our children.

“Staff Mrs Evans and Mrs Joyce deserve a special mention for the organisation and support alongside parent Kelly Asparassa - truly a team effort.”
