New Hedges Saundersfoot Utd (NHS) hit the road for only the second time this season visiting North of the county Broad Haven on the weekend.
Under grey and rain leaden skies, a warm welcome provided by the home side and a compact but firm pitch, ensured another entertaining battle was to be enjoyed by the hardcore of travelling fans.
The NHS team, sporting the Trubloc sponsored change kit, impressed from the start, for once the changes to last week’s line up was minimal, Ben Gray returning from suspension and Jack Franklin returning to a slightly different midfield slot, that allowed Adam Davidson to continue up front with Michael Ryder.
The slick and confident back four provided not only a rock solid defensive line, but effortless and accurate distribution to springboard attack after attack through the superlative Dan Bates and Sammy Coleman.
Wide men Franklin and Simmons posed problems throughout, finding space were there appeared to be none. Up front Davidson and Ryder threatened with pace through the former and cunning the latter.
NHS opened the scoring with a superlative header from a Ryder corner by Sam Coleman, a header that manager Alan Brindley would have been proud of in his heyday.
Wave after wave of eye pleasing football continued to flow, a combination of bad fortune and good goalkeeping keeping the score respectable for the home side.
With the pressure becoming irresistible, Davidson snapped up a chance to pass the ball calmly past the keeper. A third followed when a Ross Gray free kick floated into the penalty area dropping perfectly for Adam to send the away side into the break with a healthy three goal cushion.
The second half saw NHS continue in a dominating fashion, chance after chance were squandered or saved until the splendid line leader Ryder slotted home his customary deadly finish to end the scoring for the afternoon.
NHS keeper Justin Silver again excelled between the sticks, calmly dealing with half chances and distributing the ball with confidence.
Pleasing to see all subs – Gethin Hewson, Richard Bambrick and Stuart McLaren enjoying game time and contributing to an all round pleasing team performance.
Thanks goes to Broad Haven, their match referee and Match Day sponsor Martin Jones – Calis UK Ltd.
The team are pictured on the astro pitch at Greenhill for a training session, with training equipment sponsorship by Port of Milford Haven.
