All are invited to enjoy the match where it’s hoped that lots of funds will be raised for the mental health charity MIND who say: “We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Today. Now.”
Alison shared: “The reason for organising this memorial charity football match between Kilgetty and Tenby is that my late son Philip (Phil) Yates passed away on August 14, 2015, due to depression and had only been ill for a very short time. Mental health illness takes away our loved ones, so many, too young, both male and female. Families are left heartbroken as their teenagers and young adults feel they cannot cope any longer or tell their family and friends how they are feeling.”
Phil was a popular local boy who loved football. He played for Tenby from aged six to 13 years, then joined Kilgetty from 13-16 years. Phil took part in the Nick Webster -Smith mmorial matches too and formed some great friendships.
It is Phil’s teammates and friends who will be playing in the charity match, the majority live locally, but some are travelling from the Midlands and Gloucestershire. They are keen to support MIND and uphold Phil’s memory.
As well as remembering her son, Alison wants to help others, saying: “MIND is a wonderful charity doing a fantastic job, both helping to bring awareness and showing everyone who is suffering that they can talk and get the individual help that is so desperately needed. Every charity needs financial help to get the resources so urgently required, MIND is one that really can make a difference in helping so many people, both young and old, that suffer this awful illness.”
Representatives from MIND will be attending on the day.
Visitors are invited to arrrive from 1.30 pm with kick-off at 2pm.
Entry to the match is free. Fairtrade coffee and tea with cake will be for sale, alongside a cake stall. Activities include the chance to have a go on the Fairtrade football shy, get a photo with a giant Fairtrade football and there’s a raffle with some fantastic prizes from local businesses and attractions, including entry tickets to Folly Farm, the Dinosaur Park, Manor Park, Hanger 5, Heatherton and more.
A signed Swansea City shirt will be up for auction on the day.
Kingsmoor Sports Club bar and facilities will be open.
“Please come along and support us, see a great and entertaining football match for the charity MIND. If you cannot attend on the day to watch the football game and donate, then please can you give a little to this worthwhile cause on our Just Giving page? We couldn’t save my son, but perhaps we can save others.” invites Alison.
