HAVERFORDWEST County defender Lee Jenkins has joined the full-time ranks having agreed a move to Newport County in Sky Bet League Two.

The Wales C international from Aberaeron came through Aberystwyth Town’s youth set up and at just 16 years of age, signed a two-year contract with the Park Avenue side in 2018, having just made his full Welsh Premier League debut against Llandudno.

He went on to memorably score the winning goal in an historic win over full-timers The New Saints.

The defender linked up with the Bluebirds in the summer of 2022 and went on to become a pivotal part of the side during his three years at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.

Having made over 200 appearances in the Cymru Premier by the age of 23, Jenkins is highly rated and was recently named in the league’s team of the season.

While at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, he helped Tony Pennock’s side secure European football and scored an 89th minute equaliser against KF Shkendija of North Macedonia at Cardiff City Stadium in the EUFA Europa Conference League qualifier, with Haverfordwest going on to win the tie-on penalties.

He missed just one game from 32 last season through suspension to play a major role in securing European football again for Haverfordwest.

His performances earned him a second call-up to the Cymru C squad for the game against England C in Llanelli last season, where he played the full 90 minutes to secure a clean sheet and a 1-0 win.

Bluebirds manager Tony Pennock said: “We are so pleased to see Lee take this opportunity of joining Newport County.

“Lee has played a big part in our success over the last three seasons, playing over 100 games.

“His goal against Shkëndija be forever remembered. He leaves with our thanks, and will always have a fond welcome along with his family at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.
