Haverfordwest County 0 – Llanelli Town 3

JD Welsh Cup

HAVERFORDWEST County were knocked out of the JD Welsh Cup after a 3–0 defeat to Llanelli Town at Stebonheath Park on Friday evening.

The result marked Llanelli’s second win over the Bluebirds in three weeks and their second consecutive Welsh Cup elimination of county.

The match began with a stop-start rhythm, but Llanelli created the first real chance in the 15th minute. Bradley Gibbings rounded goalkeeper Luc Rees, only for Corey Shephard to block his shot. Rees was soon called into action again, saving a powerful strike from Harrison Bright and reacting quickly to a dangerous rebound.

County responded with chances of their own. Dylan Rees played a well-weighted ball to Owain Jones, whose first-time effort flew wide. Greg Walters and Jones combined well, but Llanelli’s defence held firm, deflecting multiple efforts wide. Dan Hawkins came closest, striking the post after a well-worked move.

Despite County’s pressure, Llanelli struck first just before halftime. A corner clearance fell to Joe Lloyd, who fired a first-time shot into the bottom corner. Rees denied Ethan Cann moments later to keep the score at 1–0 at the break.

Llanelli started the second half strongly, with Gibbings and Cann both testing Rees. Gibbings eventually doubled the lead, beating a questionable offside trap and slotting past Rees. County pushed back, with Jones and Ben Ahmun going close, but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Llanelli sealed the win 17 minutes from time when Cann latched onto a long ball and finished clinically. Rees produced a stunning triple save late on to prevent further damage, while Rhys Abbruzzese’s long-range strike was tipped wide by Alex Pennock.

Despite a valiant effort, the Bluebirds couldn’t find a consolation, as Llanelli advanced to the third round with a clean sheet and convincing win.
