HAVERFORDWEST County AFC have handed young striker Hari Thomas his first professional contract following an outstanding breakthrough season.
The 17-year-old arrived last summer to join the club’s under-19s development squad and quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer.
Thomas struck 25 goals in all competitions, including an impressive 23 in league action, marking him out as one of the most exciting prospects within the club’s ranks.
His performances earned him regular inclusion in first-team matchday squads during the JD Cymru Premier campaign, highlighting the faith shown in his ability by the coaching staff.
He also reached a notable milestone in January when he scored his first senior goal in a victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.
Thomas will now take the next step in his development as part of the club’s new hybrid model, which comes into effect next season. The system will allow selected players to train on a full-time basis, offering greater opportunities for progression into senior football.
Manager Tony Pennock praised the youngster’s qualities: “Hari has shown this season that he has lots of potential to be an excellent number nine.
“He’s what I would call an old-fashioned striker; strong, powerful and athletic with it.
“I like strikers who let defenders know they have had a tough game, and Hari has shown that this is something he can do.
“Scoring his first goal in the Cymru Premier this year was a great achievement, but there is so much more he can achieve if he continues to work hard and listens to the players around him.
Hari added: “I’m really happy to be signing a contract here at Haverfordwest.
“I’ve enjoyed my first season here experiencing Europe with the 19’s and being in and around the first team, and I’m really looking forward to the coming season and the challenges ahead.”
