PEMBROKE DOCK HARLEQUINS YOUTH 7 pts HAVERFORDWEST YOUTH 7

Pembroke Dock Quins Youth entertained their Haverfordwest counterparts in the Griffiths Cup.

Although outplayed for large parts of the game, the Quins fought right to the bitter end, with their tackling especially in defence outstanding.

It was the Blues who took the lead after 15 minutes when flanker Kyle Hamer forced his way over after a driving maul. Centre Jack Lay added the extras.

The Quins soon hit back with a try of their own when young flanker 16-year-old Jack Millitte burrowed his way over wide out. Outside-half Ben Hathaway converted with a magnificent kick from the touchline.

The early stages of the second half belonged to the Blues, but no matter what they tried, they could not break down the Quins’ rearguard.

As the game went into the closing stages, it was the Quins who were in the ascendancy. First a drop goal attempt from Ben Hathaway went just wide and then in the last minute, Liam Scourfield stole a Blues throw to set up a last Quins attack, which resulted in the visitors being penalised. Ben Hathaway stepped up, but unfortunately for him he pushed his attempt wide of the upright.

The referee then blew for no side and the Quins were knocked out in an unfortunate fashion, the Blues going through as the away team. They will now play Neyland in the next round.
