It's been a memorable eight months for St. Clears Football Club and the season was capped off in special style on Monday as the second team won the division five cup final following a 2-1 win over their counterparts from Letterston.

Just two weeks after the first team lost out in their attempt at cup glory and a week after they were crowned division three champions, Andrew Edwards's team pulled out all the stops to come from behind to win.

Had Letterston taken all their chances the result could have been so different. With a stiff breeze on their backs in the first half, the Saints were forced to defend at every opportunity as Letterston made all the running. In the first half alone they had eight or nine gilt-edged chances to take the game away from the boys in burgundy, yet they could only convert one as Mike Williams finished off a good move with a well-taken score.

More chances were to follow, but St. Clears hung on. Even in the second half it was Letterston who had the opportunities, but gradually, playing against the wind took its toll and the Saints came marching on.

Slowly but surely they began to pressurise the Letterston goal and they were eventually rewarded when Simon Bancroft was felled in the box and they were awarded a penalty. He got up and buried the ball into the back of the net with aplomb.

Minutes later and player/manager Edwards seized the initiative with a superb lobbing shot from distance that looped over the 'keeper's head and from there on in there was no turning back as they were the team on top.

Wave after wave rained down on Letterston, although a lack of composure prevented them from running away with the game, but a beaming Edwards wasn't perturbed.

"We battled to keep in it in the first half, but the way we played in the second, we definitely deserved it. We've got such a young squad that it's the perfect send-off for the season and scoring the winner is the stuff that dreams are made of. It doesn't happen very often for me, so I'll savour that one that's for sure."
