Final of Harrison-Allen Bowl
Tomorrow, Saturday 28th July, the race for league championships and promotion as well as the tense relegation avoidance battles, will be put on hold when Lawrenny play Cresselly in the final of the Harrison-Allen Bowl at Cresselly.
Both teams are in the top five of Division One. Whilst Lawrenny may not be in contention for the title at the moment, the villagers have thrown the race wide open with wins against the three favourites, Haverfordwest, Neyland and Cresselly.
Lawrenny could still determine the outcome of the Championship race with games against both Neyland and Cresselly in August, with the Cresselly fixture scheduled for the last day of the season!
Neither Neyland nor Cresselly will be looking forward to those fixtures.
Whilst Cresselly might be the favourites for the Bowl, Lawrenny will not be travelling to Cresselly with any trepidation.
Under the leadership of pugnacious left hand batsman Joe Kidney, Lawrenny have built up an incredible team spirit with all of the players in the squad being big friends who play for each other.
Robert Williams is a highly rated seam bowler who can bat, left hander Harry Thomas is in good form and vice captain Brad McDermott Jenkins is a proven match winner.
Cresselly have the strongest batting line up in Pembrokeshire and are unlikely to fail twice, or could they?
On current form, if any team can upset the apple cart, Lawrenny can.
Where Cresselly have the edge is in the spin department. In Ryan Lewis and Mike Shaw, as well as left hand batsman Simon Cole, Cresselly have three highly regarded off spinners, who each have different skills.
As well as attracting large local interest, the contest between the two clubs will draw spectators from all over the County as it could go down to the wire.
The umpires are two highly regarded cricketers, Allan Hansen and Steve Blowes.
The scorers are also held in high esteem, namely Teagan Cartwright of Cresselly and Malcolm Thomas of Lawrenny.
Two local cricket pundits will act as the man of the match adjudicators, namely Lamphey captain Hywel Gibbs and former Kilgetty player David Gibbs.
The two innings per side match of 22 overs each will commence at 12.00pm. Admission is £5.00, OAPs £3.00, County Cricket Club vice-presidents and children under 16 free.
