Brad McDermott’s decision to step down as captain of Lawrenny looks set to have paid off after his brilliant bowling performance helped his team beat high flying Neyland on Saturday to produce the shock of the season so far.

Neyland were cruising at one stage until McDermott’s magic caused a collapse to see the hosts bowled out for 94 in reply to Lawrenny’s 120 all out, a total that looked inadequate during tea.

Neyland’s lead at the top has been cut from 30 points to eight as a result making it much closer at the top between Neyland Cresselly and Haverfordwest.

In Lawrenny’s innings, only 31 from Patrick Elliott and 26 from Joe Kidney was anything to write home about as the home side’s bowling strength shone through but McDermott and 4-40 from Rob Williams had other ideas as Lawrenny pulled off a memorable win.

There were plenty of runs at Johnston as Kilgetty racked up 216-4 thanks to Dafydd Bevan’s 78 and P Lewis’ 78 not out although the hosts, trailing at the foot of the table were not going to go down wondering after they produced a spirited batting performance.

Ross Hardy took 4-46 and Toby Poole 3-53 as Johnston hung on at 196-9 to secure a draw.

Cresselly gained on Neyland with a win worth 29 points at home to Whitland, the Doves passing the visitors’ 164 all out for the loss of three wickets.

Whitland were indebted to Dyland Blain’s 85 and Nathan Evans’ 30 for their total but it proved little for Cresselly’s batsmen to chase after Dan Sutton finished on 99 not out.

Earlier Tom Arthur took 7-47 for the hosts.

Pembroke’s season in division two keeps getting worse after they went down to a 131 run defeat at home to Carew who batted first and scored 205-7 thanks to Rhys Davies’ 68 and Tom Davies’ 65.

In reply, Sean Whitlfield took 5-8 and Ceri Brace three wickets as Pembroke were dismissed for 74. Jack Harries scored 31 not out for the hosts.

Hook beat Cresselly seconds off the last ball of the 47th over to win in dramatic style at home.

Cresselly were all out for 150 in the 43rd over allowing the hosts a few extra balls to get over the line. They needed it as they crawled over.

Matthew Webb scored 57 for the visitors with Matthew Lewis taking 4-34.

A brilliant hundred by 16-year-old Tom Mansbridge helped Saundersfoot to a nine wicket win over Haverfordwest seconds.

The Town were all out for 173 with Saundersfoot reaching 178-1.

A century for Richie Adams too after his 106 not out helped Narberth beat Whitland seconds.

Narberth batted first hitting 232-6 as Adams hit 106 not out while Kyle Quartermaine smashed 51. Geg Sleep took four wickets for Whitland.

A battling innings of 80 by Simon bevan helped Stackpole hold out for a draw against Llechryd who scored 205-6 in their innings.

Stackpole closed on 176-8.

In reply the Borderers were all out for 143 after two wickets apiece for Ben Hughes and Loui Davies.

In division three, Carew seconds beat Herbrandston by 66 runs after Carew batted first and scored 141-9.

Morgan Grieve top scored with 38 not out. In reply Herbie were all out for 75.

Lamphey’s batting line-up were on form up at Llechryd seconds hitting 259-6 against the hosts thanks to nick Johnson’s 82, Dave Blackwell’s 50 and Peter McGilloway’s 56.

Llechryd closed on 144-6.

A win for Narberth seconds at home to Llanrhian who scored 145-9 off their overs thanks to Matthew Johns’ 5-10.

Narberth hit 146-3 in reply with Kyle Williams hitting 68 and Andrew Williams 42 not out.

Pembroke Dock continue to fly high at the top with an eight wicket win at Lawrenny seconds.

Lawrenny were dismissed for 114 thanks to Nic Daley’s 3-26, only Steve Campbell with 24 got to grips with the attack.

Daley was in the runs too hitting 35 but 62 from luke Murray led the charge to victory.

In division four, Hundleton went down to Hook seconds by eight wickets after they could only muster 104-7 in their innings, David Lockyer hitting 32 not out and Stuart McNiffe and unbeaten 31. Chris Stapleton took two wickets in the reply but Hook cruised to a win.

Meanwhile, Saundersfoot seconds went down at Tish seconds after the visitors could only score 133-6 in their overs. Steve Cook hit 65 for Saundersfoot and Simon Stanford 26.

St Ishmaels only lost two wickets in their winning reply.

Finally, in division five, Whitland thirds lost to Cresselly thirds by 77 runs after Cresselly were all out for 127.

Billy Kinnear scored 69 for Cresselly and Llew Evans 57 not out. He also took 3-13 in the reply while Chris Izzard took 4-7 after Whitland were dismissed for 92.

Rob Owen scored 28 for Whitland while earlier, Gwynne Phillips took 4-49.

A win for Carew thirds too after they beat Haverfordwest fourths by 41 runs.

Carew scored 168-9 thanks to Adam Hughes’ 46 and Alan Townsend’s 34 whilel Rhys Canton scored 30 and took 3-19 as the town were all out for 127. Yori Hicks and Aaron Hinman both took a brace of wickets.

Kilgetty seconds overcame the challenge of leaders Pembroke seconds after Pembroke were restricted to 124-8 thanks to Matthew Lewis’s three wickets and Chris Phillips’ four.

Kilgetty sailed to a win losing just two wickets with lewis hitting 51 and Trevor Badham 53 not out.

It was a bad day for Stackpole seconds as they went down to a 106 run defeat at Neyland thirds who batted first and scored 227-8.

Jess Gibby took 3-42 for the Lillies and Chris Gibbs scored 52 in the reply but they were all out for 121.
