There has been a fantastic response to the first two opening training sessions for the Cresselly Doves Under 9s and Under 11s teams.
A total of 46 children have started training on Friday nights, with 30 Under 9s and 16 Under 11s.
Coaches Stefan Jenkins and Ryan Lewis, alongside other coaches, Sion Jenkins, Megan Jenkins and Tommy Arthur, have been delighted with the response to posters going into schools, as well as social media posts and could never have dreamed of having so many children attending.
Training has focused on having fun whilst developing batting, bowling and fielding skills. The children arrive and quickly get into their stride, warming up with a few games. They then enjoy three rotations focusing on core skills before finishing up with a game at the end.
Chairman Richard Arthur said: “It is fantastic to see so many young cricketers up on the field enjoying themselves and playing cricket. Only a couple of years ago, our youth set up was dwindling, so to see so many new faces back in the Cresselly youth set-up is brilliant. With 19 children already signed up to the ALL STARS programme, an initiative for five-eight-year-olds, which starts on Saturday mornings (May 20, 10.30-11.30 am), the future really is looking bright!”
The club is also extremely grateful for the donation they received from the Milford Haven Port Authority which helped to pay for new equipment and subsidise the brand new training/playing tops.
Cresselly Doves Under 9s and 11s training is on Fridays, at 6 pm, at Cresselly CC.
