Bynea 48 pts.

Pembroke Dock Quins 5

Bynea completed the double over the Quins at the weekend, having previously won 24-22 with a last minute score at Bierspool earlier in the season.

The Quins kicked off with a vicious cross wind blowing diagonally across the pitch, and it was not long before Bynea exerted pressure on the opposition line after a fine run from right wing Jonathan Cronin put his side in a favourable position, from which loose head prop Chris Mills forced his way over.

Jonathan Cronin missed the conversion, which was not surprising as the conditions were totally against him.

On 10 minutes the hosts added their second try when fullback Nicky Morris finished off a fine handling move to score wide out. Cronin again failed with the conversion.

A few minutes later the fullback was at it again. When the Quins cleared their lines with what seemed a reasonable kick in the conditions, he caught the ball and ran straight through their defence to score underneath the posts. This time Cronin converted against all the odds to put his side 17-0 up.

As the half drew to a close, the home side added two more tries through excellent scrum-half Simon Jones and Cronin.

Neither try was converted and with a bonus point in the bag, the second half looked ominous for the Quins.

Although the Quins were 27 points adrift, they struck first with a superb interception try by left wing Harley Watts, the young winger grabbing his chance with both hands as he raced in from halfway to beat the covering tacklers, which was the least he deserved as he was having a fine game.

For the next 10 minutes, the Quins were giving as good as they were getting, with some fine rolling mauls forcing the home side to give away numerous penalties, but the conditions dictated that the advantage the Quins were getting was minimal.

Home flanker Andrew Armstrong scored his side's sixth try on the hour, which was converted from the touchline with a fine wind-assisted kick from Cronin.

The Quins, though, did not give up, with Joe Powell and captain Barry Parsons putting in a sterling effort once again, especially with some fine tackling, preventing the home side from adding to their score, as white line fever seemed to infect the hosts.

Bynea added two more tries as the game drew to a conclusion, from centre Wyn Griffiths and Nicky Morris, who completed his hat-trick to cap a fine display.

As for the Quins, with their most difficult away fixtures out of the way, and four home games still remaining - starting with the visit of new boys Pantyffynnon - the season could yet still end on a positive note.
