PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 32 pts

LLANGWM 36

The Quins, with a severly disrupted side due to the Easter tour to Belgium, put up a brave display and richly deserved the two bonus points they gained.

The Quins could not have got off to a better start when straight from a Llangwm kick-off the ball ended up in the hands of Jonathan Rogers, who chipped through and, with the help of a fortunate but difficult bounce, the outside-half juggled with the ball before touching down under the posts, which also gave him 50 points for the season. He converted himself to give the Quins a dream start.

Ten minutes later it got even better for the Quins, when the Wasps disrupted a Quins line-out close to the line, but after another fortunate bounce, this time the ball fell into the hands of number eight Neil Harries, who powered over from 10 yards out to score his third try of the season. Jonathan Rogers converted with ease to extend the Quins' lead to 14-0.

On 15 minutes, the outside-half was at it again, this time punishing the Wasps with a penalty kick after they were caught offside at a ruck.

At this stage, the Wasps must have wondered what had hit them, as they themselves were enjoying plenty of terrritory and possession.

They did not have to wait too long before getting on the scoreboard, however, as centre Andrew Brock scored a fine try for the visitors when he finished off a wrap around move to cross close to the posts. He converted the try himself to pull the score back to 17-7.

The Wasps were now starting to look more threatening and when number eight Adam James powered over for try, again converted by Andrew Brock, the writing was well and truly on wall.

Five minutes before the break, Jonathan Rogers eased the Quins' worries with a well-struck penalty to extend the lead to 20-14, but unfortunately for the Quins, with the interval approaching, they declined a kickable penalty and went for a seven-pointer which came to nothing.

Llangwm started the second half on the offensive and, sensing that the Quins' weakened side were there for the taking, launched an all out attack, which ended with an unconverted try for flanker Ian Griffiths.

With only one point separating the two sides, it was the Quins' turn to attack and they were unlucky when centre Stuart Hay touched down, only to be denied by an unsighted referee.

The Wasps took full advantage of their good fortune and scored an excellent try when Andrew Brock bagged his second of the match after the Quins' defence was outflanked. And for good measure, he converted it himself to put the visitors 26-20 up.

A bonus point now was up for grabs for the visitors and that duly arrived when with just 15 minutes remaining number eight Adam James crossed for his second try, which Andrew Brock again converted.

The Quins soon hit back with a first try of the season for left wing Chris Harries, after being set up by Jonathan Rogers, which went unconverted, to haul the score back to 33-35, but when Andrew Brock nailed a fine 35-yard penalty to give him a match haul of 21 points, the game was up for the Quins.

The Quins, however, did score a well-worked try when, with the last move of the match, Stuart Hay, who became the Quins' 23rd different try scorer this season, touched down under the posts after being once again set up by Jonathan Rogers, who converted with ease to enable the Quins at least to come away with two bonus points.
