Tenby took part in the Welsh Team finals at Milford Haven Golf Club last weekend.

At the finals, they were off late on Friday afternoon facing Pontypool, with Mike Schooling, Dan Farmer and Dan Cope achieving winning points to advance the team on to Saturday.

On the Saturday morning Tenby met Ashburnham in torrential rain and strong winds. Solid points were archived by Dan Farmer and Dan Cope, leaving the match balanced at 2-2. Dave Morris, who had been four up through nine, saw a fightback from his opponent and found himself on the 17th tee two up with two to play. A slightly nervous 17th saw an uncharacteristic bogey from Dave, leaving him only one up with one to play. He played the par-five 18th like a true champ, laying his second shot up to 97 yards and delivering a confident wedge shot to 18-foot in brutal conditions. Two putts would be enough to secure the victory.

A 20-minute turnaround and the team were back on the first tee in the persistent rain.

It was the turn of Richard Morton to shine and he secured his first and a vital point together with Dan Farmer. It again came down to Dave Morris in group five, who was two up with two to play after an impressively played 16th hole. Dave showed no signs of nerves this time and finished the job to win 3 and 1.

In the semi-finals, the team met a very strong Wrexham team, who had knocked out Tenby in the first round last year. With a team handicap of +5 against a Tenby total team handicap of 10, the Seasiders had their work cut out. Dan Farmer recorded the only point, winning 5 and 4, and the brave run was over.

Nevertheless, it had been an excellent performance by Tenby who had not reached the semi-final stages in the competition for 11 years.

With comfortable wins in all four matches and two wins in the qualifiers, Dan Farmer was a standout member, backed by a very committed team. Although not the strongest team on paper, the team spirit could not have been matched!
