Reigning champions Tenby suffered two league defeats in three days last week.

Last Thursday evening, they went down by 81 shots to 73 on the green of near neighbours Saundersfoot, picking up only two points of the 14 available for one winning rink.

And it was a similar story when they welcomed Whitland to a sun-drenched Sutton Street green on Saturday.

The Sharks had beaten the Borderers on their own patch in a Carruthers group match earlier in the season, but although this was again a closely fought contest, the visitors gained sweet revenge with a 75-63 success, collecting 12 points to Tenby’s two.

Tenby will be hoping to regain their form and get back to winning ways tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to the Cardiff area to play Rhoose in the opeing knockout round of the Carruthers Shield.

Other action last week saw the club’s ‘friendly’ team secure a narrow one-shot victory in an enjoyable encounter with touring Pentyrch on Friday, but unfortunately, the Five Arches found themselves without a game on Saturday, as a shortage of players saw them having to call off their scheduled game at Haverfordwest.

Tenby Arches Ladies v Neyland

On Wednesday, June 6, Tenby Arches Ladies travelled to Neyland for their return match. A warm, sunny afternoon with a refreshing breeze made for perfect bowling weather.

On rink five, Tenby could provide only three ladies, Carol, Jo and Alison. They started well, scoring three on the first end, but Neyland retaliated by scoring six on the second end. The first half of the game was quite close, with both sides winning an equal number of ends, and Tenby were leading by 16-12 at the halfway stage. Unfortunately, it was a different story after tea, with Tenby winning only two ends, to finish 28-18 down. After the 25 per cent deduction, the final score was Neyland 28 Tenby 13.5.

On rink six, Meryl, Liz, Jan and Helen got off to a slow start and were 16-7 down after 10 ends. Things did not improve in the second half and they remained stuck on seven for the next seven ends. They managed to almost double their score over the last four ends, but it was too little too late and the game ended with Neyland 27 Tenby 13.

Tenby Arches Ladies v Whitland

On Saturday, Tenby Arches Ladies welcomed Whitland to the Sutton Street green on a pleasantly warm afternoon. The men were also playing so the green was full.

Tenby could again field only six ladies. Rink five consisted of Carol, Jan and Helen. The game was quite even at first, and the score was 7-8 to Whitland at the half-way stage. Tenby gained a small lead of 9-8 after 12 ends. Unfortunately, the 13th end was unlucky for them as Whitland scored a six, which proved to be the turning point of the game. Despite picking up a four on the 19th end, they could not catch up and the game ended with Tenby 14, Whitland 25. After the 25 per cent deduction the final score was Tenby 10.5 Whitland 25.

Over on rink six, Katie, Jo and Alison struggled to get into the game and were 2-18 down after 10 ends. Unfortunately for Tenby, Whitland proved to be the stronger team and the final score after the deduction was Tenby 4.5 Whitland 37.
