There were mixed fortunes for the Tenby team last week. On Thursday night they travelled to Haverfordwest and in another closely fought battle with the county town team went down by the narrowest of margins, one shot, with the final score being a nailbiting 70-69.

Less than a fortnight before only four shots had separated the two teams in their Carruthers Shield clash on the Sutton Street green.

There was a slightly greater margin of victory on Saturday, however, when the Sharks entertained Pendine and ran out winners by 86.25 - 61.

Meanwhile, there was no joy for the Five Arches team, who travelled to Milford Haven and went down 94-62 and failed to pick up a point, although two rinks were closely fought and were only decided on the closing ends.

They will have another tough task on their hands tomorrow (Saturday) when it’s their turn to visit Haverfordwest.

Tenby Arches Ladies v St. Issell’s

On Monday afternoon, Tenby Arches Ladies, sponsored by Tenby House Hotel, welcomed St. Issell’s to the Sutton Street green, and very smart we looked with Tenby in blue shirts and St. Issell’s in their pink.

Rink five consisted of Carol, Meryl, Jan and Helen. They were up against a strong and consistent team and were 3-11 down at the halfway stage. They narrowly avoided being bombed by a low flying seagull, and although Carol’s wood took a direct hit, it did not bring them any luck, and the game ended with Tenby 11, St. Issell’s 24, seagull 1!

On rink six, Tenby were down to three players, Liz, Jo and Alison. Again, St. Issell’s were in good form and Tenby did not manage to score for the first seven ends, and were 4-22 down after 10 ends. The second half was more even, but Tenby could not catch up and the game ended with Tenby 13 St. Issell’s 31. After the 25 per cent deduction, the final score was Tenby 9.75 St. Issell’s 31.
