West Wales Ladies Bowls Association staged their county finals at a sun-drenched Haverfordwest Bowling Club on Saturday.
Held at the green of president Pam Langdon, the standard of bowling was high, with many matches going right to the wire.
Tenby’s newly-capped senior international Ysie White won the blue riband four-wood singles for the third year running, beating Whitland’s Cally Jones, while the county’s most capped international Ann Lewis, of Saundersfoot, will represnt the WWLBA in the Welsh two-wood contest after lifting the county title beating clubmate Kath Blayney. The Autumn Cup was won by Saundersfoot’s Sue Roden, who saw off the challenge of senior vice-president Gwen Hale.
The four-wood pairs was won for the first time by junior vice-president Anne Cole and Barbara Rapley, of Pembroke Dock, who only just pipped Neyland’s Janet Sutton and Jenny Harris to the silverware, while the two-wood pairs was won by Saundersfoot’s Gwenda Rees and Ann Lewis, who chalked up victory over Tenby’s Lynn Rafferty and county competition secretary and Welsh selector Julia King-Thomas.
Saundersfoot were also victorious in the triples and rinks.
Gwenda Rees, senior international Steph Amos and Ann Lewis won the triples beating Anne Cole, Barbara Rapley and Betty James, of Pembroke Dock, while senior internationals Gemma Amos and Ceris Hewlings, Marion Evans and Steph Amos won the rinks for the third year on the trot, clinching a hard-fought win over Whitland’s Kathy Jenner, birthday girl junior international Katie Thomas, her mum Andrea and Cally Jones.

Trophies will be officially presented at the WWLBA luncheon at Nantyffin Motel on October 1.
